On August 23, 2010, Ambassador Yu Wenzhe presented his letters of Credence to President Bharrat Jagdeo at the Office of the President in Georgetown. At the accreditation ceremony were Minister of Labour Mazoor Nadir performing the duties of Foreign Affairs Minister and Director General of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Elisabeth Harper.

Ambassador Yu first conveyed to President Jagdeo warm greetings and best wishes from H.E. President HU Jintao. H.E. President Jagdeo expressed gratitude and asked Ambassador Yu in return to convey his warm regards to H.E President HU Jintao and best wishes to the Chinese People.

Ambassador Yu said some of his immediate priorities while serving in his capacity which would include efforts to enhance the political thrust and respect between the governments of the two countries as well as to promote the “win-win” economic cooperation. Ambassador Yu assured that the two countries will benefit from more people to people contact noting that “China as a good friend and brother will continue to provide assistance to the best of our ability to our brotherly Guyanese people.”

President Jagdeo welcomed Ambassador Yu to Guyana. He positively appraised the achievements that China has made in recent years and recalled the long history of Guyana-China friendly relationship. He expressed satisfaction about the development of bilateral relations and reiterated the Guyana Government attach great importance to Guyana-China Relation and will continue to adhere to One China Policy. He then expressed gratitude to the Chinese Government and People for the precious support to Guyana in its efforts for socio-economic development.

Guyana is the first English-speaking Caribbean country to establish diplomatic relations with China and has since enjoyed smooth, long-term and friendly relations with a frequent exchange of high-level visits and close cooperation in the international arena.
