China is willing to work with Guyana to expand and deepen cooperation in various fields and advance their bilateral relationship, a senior Chinese official said on 11 June 2012.

Zhang Gaoli, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and head of the CPC Tianjin municipal committee, made the remarks during a meeting with Guyana President Donald Ramotar.

With vigorous promotion by the leaders of China and Guyana, relations between the two nations have grown constantly since the establishment of their diplomatic ties 40 years ago, Zhang said.

China and Guyana have enjoyed regular high-level visits, stronger political trust and relatively fast growth in economic and trade cooperation in such areas as infrastructure, mining and culture, he said.

Zhang also spoke highly of the ties between the CPC and the People's Progressive Party (PPP) of Guyana, saying that the relationship is an important part of the friendship between the two countries.

Donald Ramotar, who is also General Secretary of the PPP, welcomed Zhang's visit to Guyana and agreed with his comments on relations between the CPC and PPP.

The President said his government and the PPP attach great importance to developing relations with China, and expressed gratitude for China's long-term support and assistance to Guyana.

Mr.Ramotar noted that Guyana and the PPP will always stick to the one-China policy, support the cause of China's peaceful reunification, continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese government and CPC, and promote bilateral ties.

On 11 June 2012, Zhang also met with the Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Raphael Trotman and Prime Minister Samuel Hinds. The officials discussed ways to improve communications between the two parliaments and ties between the two countries.

The delegation lead by Zhang arrived in Guyana on 10 June 2012 for a 2-day goodwill visit.
