Ambassador Zhang Limin Attended the Handover Ceremony of the Medical Equipment and Unveiling Cereamony of Trauma Center

     The handover ceremony of the medical equipment donated by the Chinese government and the unveiling ceremony of the Trauma Center of the Chinese medical team were held at the Georgetown Public Hospital on October 29, 2015. His Excellency Zhang Limin, Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, Honorable Carl Greenidge, Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Honorable Dr. Karen Cummings, Minister within the Ministry of Public Health of Guyana, Mr. Lan Qing, Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning,members of the Chinese medical team, official of the hospital and representatives of the media attended the event.

     Ambassador Zhang highlighted in his speech that China and Guyana enjoy traditional friendship. Over the 43 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries have maintained close cooperation in economy and trade, education, health and other fields. China has dispatched 11 groups of medical team to Guyana during more than 20 years. Every year, China donates medical equipment to Guyana. These have greatly improved the conditions of medical facilities and the health service of Guyana. Ambassador Zhang thanked the government and all sectors of Guyana for their care about and support to the Chinese medical team. He recognized the work of the Chinese medical team and encouraged them to make continuous efforts in providing quality medical service to the local people.

     Vice President Greenidge and Minister Cummings also made warm remarks. They said that Guyana and China have a long history of friendship. Guyana took the lead among the English-speaking Caribbean countries in establishing diplomatic relations with China. Since then, Guyana and China have carried out productive cooperation in health and other fields on the basis of mutual respect. The projects such as Cheddi Jagan Airport Expansion, One Laptop Per Family have played a critical role in the social and economic development of Guyana. The Chinese medical teams have made outstanding contributions to promoting the health service of Guyana. Guyana appreciates China’s assistance and is looking forward to further enhancing the friendly relations of cooperation between the two countries.

     The Ministry of Public Health of Guyana hosted a welcome reception for the delegation of Jiangsu provincial Commission of Health and Family Planning on October 28. Ambassador Zhang Limin, Honorable Joseph Harmon, Minister of State, Honorable Dr. Karen Cummings, Minister within Ministry of Public Health of Guyana were present at the reception.
