Chinese Embassy in Guyana Hosted 68th National Day Reception

His Excellency Cui Jianchun, Chinese Ambassador to Guyana and Madame Liang Huili hosted a reception in celebration of the 68th Anniversary of the Founding of People's Republic of China on September 21, 2017. Acting President Honorable Moses Nagamootoo, Honorable Speaker Barton Scotland, ministers of the government of Guyana, representatives of Chinese owned and operated companies and other notables within the Chinese and Guyanese community were all in attendance at the reception held at New Thriving Providence.

Ambassador Cui extended sincere welcome to all the guests and pointed out that the year 2017 has been a significant year to China's rejuvenation. China is actively engaged in the implementation of the "Five Pronged Overall Plan" and the "Four Comprehensives" strategy, with noticeable results currently under way within both social and economic development. The Communist Party of China will hold the Nineteenth National Congress in October this year. Under the leadership of the Communist Party of China Central Committee with President Xi Jinping as the core, Chinese people are striving to achieve the Two Centenary Goals and the Chinese Dream of Great restoration of the Chinese nation.

Ambassador Cui indicated that in light of the profound changes in the international community, China's main focus has always been on the implementation of peace and development. In May of this year, China made significant efforts in hosting the Belt and Road Forum for the International Cooperation to pool together knowledge in areas of expertise and capabilities from all parties for a mutually beneficial cooperation in building the Belt and Road.

Ambassador Cui spoke highly of China-Guyana relations. Within this year alone, the cooperation in economy and trade, security, education, health and other fields have yielded good results, with current projects progressing smoothly. China cherishes the 45 years of diplomatic ties with Guyana and stands ready to assist in the development of this culturally diverse and resource rich country, to create better lives for all.

Acting President Nagamootoo sent warm congratulations to the 68th birthday of China. He stated that since the establishment of diplomatic ties between Guyana and China 45 years ago, the two countries have cooperated closely in political, economic, cultural aspects to achieve great returns. China has always been a reliable friend and partner of Guyana. The "Belt and Road" Initiative and China-CELAC cooperation provide great opportunities for Guyana's development. Guyana looks forward to deepening cooperation with China and promoting the friendly relationship between the two countries to a new height.

The reception was permeated with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Guests exchanged greetings to each other and enjoyed a traditional Chinese Lion dance, and several musical performances. Guests enjoyed books and magazines that introduced China's development and culture. Overall it was a joyous occasion that served as a great reminder of our past accomplishments as two friendly countries, working hand in hand and of the greater successes to come.
