On December 22, Prime Minister of Guyana, Hon. Mark Phillips and Ambassador Cui Jianchun boarded a barge near the Kingston wharf on the Demerara River to inspect the repair of damaged submarine cables carried out by a Chinese company. Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Hon. Deodat Indar and CEO of GPL, Mr. Bharrat Dindyal also joined the inspection. The delegation visited the construction site and checked on the repair progress.

In an interview, the Prime Minister highly appreciated China's strong support for coordinating the restoration work and announced that the restoration work would be completed before Christmas, making an important contribution to ensuring the capital's holiday peak power consumption.

Ambassador Cui emphasized that“A friend in need is a friend indeed. This cable repair task is the latest example of China-Guyana friendship. China and Guyana are traditionally friendly with continual mutual support. With the joint efforts of both sides, the bilateral relations will bear more fruits.
