Ambassador Guo Haiyan presented Letter of Credence to President Mohamed Irfaan Ali

On October 29, 2021, Ambassador Guo Haiyan presented her Letter of Credence to President Mohamed Irfaan Ali at the Office of the President in Georgetown. At the accreditation ceremony were Hon. Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (a.g.), Dr. Frank Anthony, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Elisabeth Harper and Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Ivan Evelyn.

Amb. Guo firstly conveyed to President Ali warm greetings from H.E. President Xi Jinping. She said that China and Guyana have a long history of friendship. Guyana is the first country in the English-speaking Caribbean to establish diplomatic ties with the People's Republic of China, and it is also China's important cooperation partner in this region. China deeply values its relations with Guyana and stands ready to work with Guyana to seize the good opportunities presented by the 50th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties next year and bring this relationship to new heights.

President Ali welcomed Amb. Guo to Guyana and asked her in return to convey his best wishes to H.E President Xi Jinping and the Chinese People. He said that Guyana and China have enjoyed excellent relations with the One-China Policy a foundational pillar. Guyana has benefitted tangibly from its cooperation with China within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and appreciates China's assistance and support to the nation. Guyana is looking forward to marking the 50th anniversary next year in a significant manner and remains committed to working with China to continue to deepen mutual respect, promote high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic communication and promote more cultural engagement between Guyana and China.

Before the ceremony, Amb. Guo also called on the Hon. Dr. Frank Anthony, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (a.g.) and reviewed the Guard of Honour.

Ambassador GUO Haiyan arrived in Georgetown, the capital city of Guyana, on October 15, 2021, and presented the copy of her Letter of Credence to Amb. Ivan Evelyn, Chief of Protocol of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, on October 29. 2021.
