On November 22, Chinese Ambassador to Guyana, H.E. Guo Haiyan paid a courtesy call to Hon. Prime Minister Brigadier (Ret'd) Mark Phillips. The Prime Minister warmly welcomed Ambassador Guo to take up her new post and reiterated that the Government of Guyana always adheres to the One-China Policy and considers China as an important development partner. Ambassador Guo expressed her great willingness to work with the Guyanese side to deepen friendly cooperation and promote the greater development of China-Guyana relations.

After the meeting, Ambassador Guo and Prime Minister Mark Phillips witnessed Huawei's donation of Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) to the Prime Minister's Office and delivered speeches.

In her speech, Ambassador Guo recognizes that Chinese enterprises in Guyana represented by Huawei have been actively fulfilling their social responsibilities, especially on making important contributions to local development through investing in industries, upgrading infrastructure, creating local jobs, advancing technological progress and helping vulnerable groups.

Taking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity, Ambassador Guo emphasizes she is looking forward to working hand in hand with Guyanese friends, to deepen coordination between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Low Carbon Development Strategy, and further expand pragmatic cooperation and people to people exchanges in all fields, for China and Guyana to become the "finest partners" in the "finest era", and let the outcomes of the win-win cooperation between the two countries better benefit the two peoples.

Prime Minister Mark Phillips said that in the past nearly 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Guyana and China, Guyana has benefited a lot from the development of the relations. The cooperation projects implemented by China's Huawei in Guyana and the equipment donated today will help Guyana bridge the digital divide and promote economic and social development. Guyana plans to further strengthen the construction of ICT infrastructure and expand the "smart city" project into "smart country".
