Chinese Embassy in Guyana Hosted 2016 Spring Festival Reception

      His Excellency Zhang Limin, Chinese Ambassador go Guyana and Madame Liu Yue hosted a reception in celebration of Spring Festival on February 3, 2016. His Excellency President David Granger and Mrs. Granger, Honorable Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and Mrs. Nagamootoo, over ten ministers of the government of Guyana, representatives of the Chinese companies and Chinese community in Guyana attended the celebration.

     Ambassador Zhang extended Spring Festival greetings to the guests and pointed out that while remaining stable, China’s economy secured progress and grew by 6.9% in 2015. The inclusion of RMB in the Special Drawing Rights basket shows the international community’s confidence in the bright prospect of China’s economy. The concept of innovative, coordinated, green, open and shared economic and social development put forth in the proposal for the 13th five-year plan coincides with Guyana’s thrust of economic transformation and green economy, which will create more and new growth areas in cooperation between the two countries.

     Ambassador Zhang highlighted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the political mutual trust between China and Guyana has increased, cooperation in various fields have yielded positive results, and non-governmental exchanges are thriving. China actively support the development of Guyana and stands ready to work with Guyana to advance bilateral friendly relations further. He wished that taking the golden jubilee of independence as a new starting point, Guyana will make greater achievements on the path of national renaissance.

     In his remarks, President Granger sent new year greetings to the Chinese community in Guyana. He said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties with China, Guyana always upholds One China policy. Cooperation in trade, investment and other fields keep expanding, and the two countries have become partners in development, which not only boosted the economic development of Guyana, but also benefited two peoples. The great achievement of China’s economy is a modern legend. President Granger reaffirmed that Guyana highly values the ties of blood, history and friendship with China and is willing to further deepen friendly relations of cooperation between Guyana and China.

     An atmosphere of warm friendship prevailed during the dinner. Ambassador Zhang and President Granger had an in-depth exchange of views on enhancing China-Guyana relations and other issues. They frequently raised glasses with other guests and exchanged greetings to each other. Mainstream media such as Chronicle, Guyana Times, Kaieteur News reported on the event.
