On Friday, June 4th, 2010, Ambassador Zhang Jungao, accompanied by the staff members of the Chinese Embassy and Chinese Medical Team, paid a visit to the Guyana Demerara Distillers Ltd (DDL).

Under the well arrangements and fine hospitality by the Production Manager Mr. Kanto of DDL, the crew visited the production plant, warehouse, bottling plant and a museum. With the fragrant taste and smell of the rum refinement, everyone had an intuitionistic understand about the rum's production process as well as a better knowledge of the history and current of rum in Guyana.

Rum is one of the traditional products for exports in Guyana and DDL is the most renowned rum-making enterprise, which could date back to early 17 century. Its most famous products like El Dorado enjoys a high reputation in the world market and a lot of conventional brewing technics has been kept ever since then.
